POWER HOUSE ART

Whale Bone Transformation, Poodlat, c. 1960s
We have a wide selection of Inuit sculpture, mainly from Labrador and Baffin Island. My admiration and love for Aboriginal art and history has made Inuit art a must in my life and I am glad I can share it with others through the Power House Art Gallery. Please contact me to see our new pieces! (power.house.art@gmail.com)

Serpentine stone Mannumi Shaqu Cape Dorset 6.5"hx5"w $495 Shaqu was a prominent early sculptor from Cape Dorset. Mannumi was born in 1917 in Cape Dorset and his work is featured in several Canadian Museum Collections. One of his earlier mother and child pieces was presented to Queen Elizabeth (princess at the time) in 1951 as the first official Inuit piece given as a gift. In his later years, he unfortunately lost his sight but continued to carve, using the feel of the stone as his guidance.
